Souvlaki and Gyros- What is the difference?

Marinated meat grilled on a skewer, Souvlaki is Greek fast food. Pork is usually used to make this item, but lamb, chicken, and beef are also standard to use. You can relish souvlaki right from the skewer as a kebab. You can have it in a warm pita with your favored toppings, or on a neat bed of fresh veggies. Have some souvlaki in Hobart to experiment with food if you haven’t eaten it before.

Gyros and Souvlaki are both staples of Greek cooking. However, they're not identical at all. Here's how to notify the difference:

· Souvlaki is marinated pork, lamb, beef, or chicken grilled on a skewer. It's normally served on a skewer to customers, though you can also devour it in a warm pita or over salad. So order souvlaki in Hobart and give your tongue some different tastes.

· Gyros are created with piled meat (usually pork, though different meats are also common) that has been prepared on a standing rotisserie. Gyro meat is loaded into a warm pita with red onion, tomato, some French fries, and a wholesome dose of tzatziki.

History of Souvlaki

Souvlaki's roots fall way back to Ancient Greece. The first documented mention of this food item is in Homer's The Iliad. What we currently call souvlaki was likely first known as "obeliskos," which is derived from the word "obelus" (implying "spit" or "skewer").

The current name is a diminutive of souvla. It means "skewer." In southern Athens and Greece, it's named kalamaki (which approximately translates to "small reed").
